Kamala Harris. A name people all over are becoming more and more familiar with. She is an influence to women and people of color all over the country. As a young woman myself, and someone who was able to vote this year, her position as vice president elect has absolutely inspired me.
Kamala’s work is meant to help people who have struggled to have proper representation within their state and government, including for the rights of working people while being attorney general in California and then a senator. She has fought for better wages for people, making available healthcare to people, reform the justice system and make childcare more accessible for parents just to name a few. Her work as a lawyer and politician has shown women that they can hold higher positions of work. Being the first woman vice-president was enough to make my own grandmother cry.
She was so happy that she is able to be alive in a time where a woman holds such a powerful position. When we heard that Biden and Harris won, my grandmother called me and told me that I helped make a difference for all the women in this country. Kamala Harris is setting the stage for more women to rise up and have such opportunities in the United States. I cannot wait to see more women rise up and hold more of these positions.
