How are GHS seniors feeling about Early Decision results?

The months of November and December are busy and exciting times for high school seniors around the world, as the college application process is underway for those who are choosing to pursue higher education. Seniors have a wide variety of choices when it comes to colleges, but another option that they have when choosing a college is whether or not to make an early decision to that specific institution.
Early decision is an option offered by most colleges that allows students to apply multiple months early to a college in exchange for a higher chance at them being accepted. This does come at a cost though, because if you get into the college that you applied to early, then you have no other option for admissions.
Even if you get into other colleges that you applied to, you are locked into your choice for early decision. This might seem like an easy choice to some people, but early decision requires students to have their application done much earlier than the regular decision pool, and that can cause students to be overwhelmed.
However I asked some GHS seniors that applied early to some colleges how they were feeling about their choice. Ruari Maloney of the senior class said that he was “feeling very nervous about them” and he was “ not being very optimistic”. This is not so uncommon for high school seniors because the majority of students either make an early decision to a school that they really want to go to, or they take a long shot at a very competitive school. Certain colleges have different set days that they will release their results on, so some students have to deal with the suspense.
Willow Scappace from the senior class of GHS has this problem, as she says this; “ I’m very worried since I have yet to get them back”. This is also a common experience of students waiting for their decision to come back, because people work extremely hard on their application and hate to see that they did not get into the school that they wanted.
Yet even if you do not get into the singular school that you want, most students apply to 5 or more schools to see if they can get into at least one of them. Ultimately, college is not for everyone, and students should not be pressured into going into college if it is not for them, but if students are considering higher education I would highly recommend making an early decision to a school that you really want to go to.
